Jesus Christ

Jesus of Nazareth ( / ˈ dʒ iː z ə s /; 7–2 BC/BCE to 30–36 AD/CE), commonly referred to as Jesus Christ or simply as Jesus or Christ, is the central figure of Christianity. Most Christian denominations venerate him as God the Son incarnated and believe that he rose from the dead after being crucified. The principal sources of information regarding Jesus are the four canonical gospels, and most biblical scholars find them useful for reconstructing Jesus' life and teachings. Scholars have correlated the New Testament accounts with non-Christian historical records to arrive at an estimated chronology for the major episodes in the life of Jesus.

Most critical historians agree that Jesus was a Galilean Jewish Rabbi who was regarded as a teacher and healer in Judaea, that he was baptized by John the Baptist, and that he was crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman Prefect, Pontius Pilate, on the charge of sedition against the Roman Empire. Critical Biblical scholars and historians have offered competing descriptions of Jesus as a self-described Messiah, as the leader of an apocalyptic movement, as an itinerant sage, as a charismatic healer, and as the founder of an independent religious movement. Most contemporary scholars of the historical Jesus consider him to have been an independent, charismatic founder of a Jewish restoration movement, anticipating a future apocalypse. Other prominent scholars, however, contend that Jesus' "Kingdom of God" meant radical personal and social transformation instead of a future apocalypse.

Christians traditionally believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, performed miracles, founded the Church, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven, from which he will return. The majority of Christians worship Jesus as the incarnation of God the Son, and "the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity". A few Christian groups, however, reject Trinitarianism, wholly or partly, believing it to be non-scriptural. Most Christian scholars today present Jesus as the awaited Messiah promised in the Old Testament and as God, arguing that he fulfilled many Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament.

Judaism rejects assertions that Jesus was the awaited Messiah, arguing that he did not fulfill the Messianic prophecies in the Tanakh. In Islam, Jesus (in Arabic: عيسى‎ in Islamic usage, commonly transliterated as Isa) is considered one of God's important prophets, a bringer of scripture, and the product of a virgin birth, but not to have experienced crucifixion. Islam and the Bahá'í Faith use the title "Messiah" for Jesus, but do not teach that he was God incarnate.

Why do Jews reject the salvation offered through Jesus Christ when His presence is all around them?
Q. Clearly, Jews have a strong suspicion that Christianity and the acceptance of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is the one true path to salvation, and some do act on these suspicions, and accept Him. However, most Jews do not take this step, despite being surrounded by evidence, including the fulfilled prophecies contained in the Old Testament. Why is this? Why do so many Jews refuse to accept the salvation that is so freely offered them?

A. You really know nothing about Judiasm & display distain for us. For 2000 years Christianity has made this claim & for 2000 years Jews have died saying -- you really don't have a clue about Judasim. So here's a good site for you to get started at. As you see the differences from what you've been taught - consider if it's possible you have a right to your religion, but you are obligated to start respecting Jews. & I considered Christainity in my teenage years. I find the idea of a murder & blood giving good to people utterly disgusting. It's just not the right religion for me. I considered hell & salvation & thought they were way too simplistic. It's not the right religion for me. I thought about all the joy & value in Judaism,… [cont.]

A. Good question! According to the Bible a positive sign of the impending end of times that hardly any Christian talks about and those who do are totally opposed to it is the full restoration of sodom to the way that it was just before its destruction!!! This FACT in the Bible goes on to prove that the Christian Clergy and the preachers are the ones promoting homophobia on their own initiative among their candid flock!!! They are not telling anybody in the world the whole bible truth !!! Ezekiel 16:48-49,53,55 (NIV) As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD* (*God almighty had to swear telling the truth!!!), your sister Sodom and her daughters never did what you* (*what jerusalem did! Most Christians refuse to agree with God, but… [cont.]

The life of Jesus Christ takes on fresh clarity and meaning in this masterful work by Dwight Pentecost. The words, the miracles, and overarching message of the Messiah come alive in flowing and detailed chronology, set against the cultural, political, and religious setting of his day. You ll gain new understanding of why Jesus came, how he operated, and what he accomplished. Above all, you ll acquire a deeper appreciation for the love that guided his path, beginning in a manger in Bethlehem, leading through three and a half years of ministry that ended abruptly at the cross on Golgotha, and blazing forth in eternal triumph at the resurrection. Drawing liberally on the works of others who have written about Christ, such as Alfred Edersheim,… [cont.]
