Why would someone who can do miracles, let himself suffer the torture of crucifixion?
Q. If I had the power to heal the sick, to make the blind see, and to raise people from the dead, why would I let myself suffer the torture of crucifixion, even if I would allow it to happen just for show, and just to make my point. Did Jesus REALLY suffer on the cross? Dear God, forgive me for this blasphemy, but I had to ask the question.

A. this is a good question, all he had to do was die for our sins , right? he didn't`t have to suffer, so he wouldn't be cheating if he had used some power to prevent the physical pain. its not even like he was dieing just his body was.

Was the Crucifixion the most important event in the gospel story, or the least important?
Q. The Apostles didn't even show up for the Crucifixion! (except for John) Christ said that they would be in their homes... and since Christ himself confirmed it, I guess they were supposed to be in their homes. So if the Apostles were the ones who were being trained to preach the Gospel, why were they not asked to come and witness the whole thing? Add in the fact that Christ did not say anything about dying for the sins of mankind when he returned to them... doesn't that mean that the Crucifixion did not have the kind of importance that people place on it these days?
Asked by Lakely - Wed Dec 17 08:49:38 2008 - Religion & Spirituality - 20 Answers - Comments
A. Jesus is the SUN. The Apostles represent the constellations of the Zodiac in the Jesus story. The reference to homes is: Each constellation is referred to as a house hence there are 12 houses of the Zodiac. The Crucifixion was the end of the year (the end of Jesus' one year seminary) This is why on the 3rd day he rises again to start a new year. Because it was the end of the year the Apostles (constellations) are in there houses.

Is It Okay For Christians To Be Turned Off By The Crucifixion?
Q. When watching Jesus videos I prefer to skip the crucifixion scene. I know that Jesus is our Savior but I don't want to think of someone being treated that way. Do other Christians feel the same way?

A. I feel the same. Until I'd seen The Passion I'd never watched a crucifixion scene, and with the first blow of the whip I turned the channel. I was even sickened by the amount of blood on the Shroud of Turin, and just how many injuries this person received. Whether this was the burial shroud of Jesus we'll never know, and to see the extent to which people were tortured ... It's just awful, and I can't watch such a thing. To be honest, I can't watch the Humane Society commercials, either. No person or animal deserves to be treated with such cruelty. It's just heartbreaking.

What is the difference between Roman and Jewish crucifixion? Was it for the same purpose?
Q. I'm taking a New Testament course right now and am studying the crucifixion of Jesus. I understand that the Pontius Pilate crucified him due to popular demand of society. Jesus was arrested for blasphemy and was still crucified despite the fact that the only people that the Romans crucified were thieves and insurrectionists. However, was there a different reason why Jewish people crucified people or is the reasoning of this punishment the same?

A. Jews did not crucify people. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar. The Torah commanded that people be STONED for sins (see what happened to Stephen).

Q. Why didn't anyone ever mention that Jesus didn't say anything about his death beforehand ? Well , it's obvious that Jesus didn't say anything about his crucifixion , because he wanted the others to see for themselves that he is the son of God . also , they wouldn't have crucified him because it would prove he is the messiah. Which emotion was strongest for the apostles, fear for their lives or mourning for Jesus after the crucifixion?
Q. After the crucifixion the Romans hunted down, killed and imprisoned the followers of Jesus. Almost all the apostles and it is said Jesus' family left the region to escape to other lands, which is why early Christianity spread. The apostles scattered to save their own lives but also took the story of Jesus with them.

A. Fear was probably strongest at first as they were human. But later they would have said they were given courage by their God. There is no doubt that they were persecuted. Cornelius Tacitus, one of the most reliable source historians of first-century Rome, wrote in his Annals a year-by-year account of events in the Roman Empire under the early Caesars. Among the highlights that he reports for the year A.D. 64 was the great fire of Rome. People blamed the emperor Nero for this conflagration since it happened "on his watch," but in order to save himself, Nero switched the blame to "the Christians," which is the first time they appear in secular history. Asked by gandalf - Sun May 9 18:19:50 2010 - Religion & Spirituality - 7 Answers - Comments
A. I believe, as Thomas Jefferson did, that every supernatural act attributed to Jesus was an embellishment of his "biographers". There is simply no corroborating documentation for his last words or changing water into wine or his body turning up missing from the crypt. And to the guy with the civil war analogy - the flaw in your logic is that many more people COULD and DID write about their experiences during that war than ever wrote about Jesus during his lifetime.

A. We are all sinners. jesus is God and of course sinless obviously, and JESUS is the only acceptable sacrifice and PAYMENT for our sins. Nothing else pays for any of our sins. All the good deeds in the world won't pay for even ONE of our sins. All the "living a moral life" won't pay for even one of our sins. "Religions of the world" cannot pay for ANYONE'S sins. A. No the people doing re enactments of the crucifixion for religious reasons in the belief that it atones for their sins and/or the sins of others do not die. Most crucifixion scenes represented in art, film and enacted dramas like in the Philippines do not portray what was so awful about crucifixion at all. Remember it was considered to be one of the most feared and torturous of executions and the Romans had lots of practice and knew how to inflict pain. After the scourging which was portrayed in all its brutality in a recent film and after the nailing modern re enactments look like someone just waits up there to die. Well no. Thats when the torture begins. Crucifixion is not done by nailing someone by the palms of their hands or the middle… [cont.]

Beginning at Ezekiel 45:18, you can read about the value of blood for cleansing the sanctuary and the altar in preparation for Passover. Notice again that the blood is placed on the four corners of the ledge… [cont.]
