Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Jesus wept (Greek: ἐδάκρυσεν ὁ ἰησοῦς) is a phrase famous for being the shortest verse in the King James Version of the Bible, as well as many other popular versions (though not the shortest in the original languages). It is found in the Gospel of John, chapter 11, verse 35. ContextThis verse occurs in John's narrative of the death of Lazarus, a friend of Jesus. Lazarus' sisters Mary and Martha sent word to Jesus of their brother's illness. Jesus arrived four days after Lazarus' death. Jesus, after talking to the grieving sisters and seeing Lazarus' friends weeping, was deeply troubled. After being shown where Lazarus was laid, Jesus wept in front of Lazarus' tomb. He then ordered the people to remove the stone covering the tomb, prayed aloud to his Father, and ordered Lazarus to come out. From Wikipedia under the

Q. Quick poll: How many verses are there in the Bible where Jesus wept? Asked by unknown - Wed Jul 5 15:37:28 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Depends on which version you look at. In The Message, there are two. In John 11:35, it says "Now Jesus wept." (The standard "Jesus wept." in the NIV) In Hebrews 5:7, it says "While he lived on earth, anticipating death, Jesus cried out in pain and wept in sorrow as he offered up priestly prayers to God." (The NIV says, "During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.") So, it depends on which version you look at. It also depends on whether you go with the strict "Jesus wept", or if you'd take "loud cries and tears" as an alternative. Q. I find that often I get disappointed in myself, and I can worry a lot about my family. I wish that believers could better represent God, myself included. The local, national and world news is always depressing. The relentless onslaught of satan, world and flesh gets me tired. What's a good Christian chap to do? Any inspirational, up-lifting words? The world all believes that they have to sin.I believe sin can be defeated, to walk perfect. You were once a sinner and by the power of God you became whole again. I suffer with the Christians saying they want someone to die for them and desire a saviour, and go on not knowing what the cross is about... you say a man can not perfect by his power, only by his blood can a man be perfect...as far as I can tell only by his blood can you make it into heaven, not to be perfect. But the X true way to get in heaven is by father with his son.it was not suppose to be threw the blood of his son. For those who disagree, what kind of father would want to crucify his son? and make sure it is the only way,… [cont.] Answered by THEGREATSEEKER - Mon Nov 26 09:54:48 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "jesus wept" |
